Yellow Slide Park Shelter Announcement

Coming Summer of 2024

The Deer Ridge Community Association is excited to announce the construction of the Yellow Slide Park Shade Shelter!

Set to be completed this summer, this 35′ x 35′ shelter will be conveniently located beside the playground. Complete with picnic tables, it will be the perfect spot for families and friends to gather and enjoy outdoor activites in Yellow Slide Park.

Member Special Meeting

Tonight!

When: Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 7:00 p.m.
Where: Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd (13811 Deer Ridge Dr. SE).

A special meeting has been called for membership vote on new park shelter proposed to be installed at Yellow Slide Park (Deerview Drive and Deerview Place). The park shelter project was approved at September, 2020 AGM.

This special meeting vote is a request to approve the revised bid and budget!

Yellow Slide Park Shelter will provide shade in an area prone to high temperatures under direct sun and minimum foliage coverage. Shelter will provide additional opportunities to gather having less concern for unfavourable weather.

This project is anticipated to result in a more active, engaged community, encouraging longer playground visits and more recreation in adjacent fields. Usage of the park shelter will be popular as friends, families, neighbours, and community-at-large will be able to freely use this public park shelter as a gathering place. The community association is looking forward to hosting fun pop-up events at the park shelter.

Your opinion matters! We invite you to attend the special meeting to vote on this project.

Park Shelter and Community Gardens

Community Gardens

Are you excited to enjoy fresh, organic, locally grown produce, this spring and summer? Can hardly wait to get your hands into the dirt and watch seedlings pop out of the ground? Well, there’s good news for you! It’s time to reserve your Deer Ridge Community Garden raised garden plot. Standard sized plots are 4’ x 8’ and still cost only $25 for the season, (plus your membership fee of $15, if you have not yet renewed). There are also a few smaller, but higher, raised beds, for those who prefer not to stoop while gardening.

Contact Bob Hall at Deerridgecg@gmail.com to reserve your plot for this year.

Proposed Park Shelter

The Deer Ridge Community Association is planning for installation of a park shelter at Yellow Slide Park on the corner of Deerview Drive and Deerview Place. The proposed park shelter location is just south of the playground within short distance of playground boundary.

The purpose of the installation is to provide shade and shelter from weather, as well as create an inviting gathering space. The proposed shelter would be metal roof with supporting posts as required on a concrete pad maximum size of 10.7m (35 ft) by 10.7m (35 ft). Your feedback is important, please email DeerRidgeCA@gmail.com and let us know what your think about the proposed project. The image below is an example of similiar structure, this is not the final design.

Thank you to all that attended the Deer Ridge “Movie in Yellow Slide Park”. The Lego Movie was a huge success and again we would like to thank the Raffle Sponsors for this event. We would also like to thank the Calgary Police Constables for attending, allowing everyone to interact with the police vehicles and handing out the information during their stay. The Face Painting was done by Cheryl Melatdoost who stayed much longer than anticipated to ensure that there was no face left unpainted at the end of the night. Thank you Cheryl ! Thank you to COOP for supplying the food and beverages.
The Deer Ridge Community Association Volunteer board members again did an outstanding job in planning, organizing and implementing another successful Deer Ridge Event. Many thanks goes to the Volunteers: Katrina, Dillon, Ben, Dawn, Lanis  Gord, Karen, Alana, Sean, Roy, Bob and our many friends, family and neighbors that help in more ways than we can ever thank you for. The Deer Ridge Community Association cannot be successful without their commitment.

Thank you again and see you at “Movie in Yellow Slide Park” next year.
