As part of the ongoing ReTree initiative Calgary Parks hired Diamond Head Consulting, an environmental consulting firm specializing in urban forestry, planning and landscape design to assess, recommend and create a tree and landscape vision of city owned trees along primary routes within and bordering 75 communities over the next three years.

Diamond Head Consulting Ltd has a team of 20 registered professional arborists, foresters, arborists, planners, landscape designers and GIS specialists who have previously worked with other municipalities to prepare inventories, assessments and plans for projects that require the management of individual trees and forest stands using a science-based ecological principles to develop innovative and sustainable urban land use plans.

Through the partnership of Diamond Head and Calgary Parks, our goal is to create a tree and landscape vision taking into account the existing tree inventory of each ReTree Community and integrating industry best practices.  Our goal is to increase the urban forestry tree canopy through conducting detailed analysis of existing tree data, identifying locations for tree to be newly planted, succession planning, increasing of species diversity as well as keeping and enhancing the current feel for each community.

Calgary Parks will be engaging citizens from each 2016 ReTree Community in person and / or online regarding the tree characteristics of their neighbourhoods, and providing opportunities for evening or weekend learning sessions through Community Associations.  This is a part of how Calgary Parks plans to create tree stewardship and plant trees within each community, while building tree stewardship in citizens throughout our city.

Upcoming ReTree events will be posted throughout the Summer and Fall. Check back for registration information.
